The town of Manlius includes a village also named Manlius, along with the villages of Fayetteville and Minoa. Manlius is east of the city of Syracuse and one of the city’s suburbs.
In 2005, the town was ranked 98th on CNN’s list of Best Places to Live. It is locally known as one of the nicest neighborhoods in which to live.
Settled in 1790, the township is part of the former Central New York Military Tract for American Revolutionary War veterans. Early economic development of Manlius was driven by the Erie Canal’s commerce and trade. Originally composed of the present-day towns of Manlius, DeWitt, part of Onondaga, and part of Salina, Manlius was reduced to its present limits in 1835.
Residents enjoy many locally-owned businesses, including restaurants, breweries, retail establishments, and other entertainment options. The centrally-located Manlius Swan Park is a favorite landmark for residents. The Fayetteville-Manlius Central School District that serves local children has won many awards and been recognized by New York State for the quality of its education.
